Connect Claude and Copilot to your CRM and SharePoint with MCP
Softblues (softblues.io) builds and secures MCP connectors for firms in the UK and Ireland. An MCP connector is a small service your firm owns that lets Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT reach a system such as your CRM or back-office platform, with the permissions and the audit trail you set. For SharePoint and the rest of Microsoft 365 you usually need no build at all, because the ready-made connectors already work within each person's access. We tell you which of your systems need a connector, build the ones that do, and review the ones you already run.

Key facts
Who it is for
Firms in the UK and Ireland with roughly 50 or more knowledge workers, usually on Microsoft 365, whose key data sits in a CRM or a sector platform that no ready-made connector reaches.
What MCP is
An open standard. One connector works in Claude (chat, Cowork and Claude Code), Copilot Studio, ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, and Microsoft Foundry.
What is already there
The Microsoft 365 connector in Claude, Copilot's own grounding in Microsoft 365, and directory connectors for systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot, FactSet and PitchBook.
What we build
A connector over one system with sign-in, the narrowest permissions that do the job, tests and a log of every call. One system usually takes one to four weeks; the proposal sets the timeline.
Proof
We run our own company through connectors to Google Drive, Attio, Gmail, Xero, Supabase and BigQuery. See the Softblues Claude operating system.
Partner status
Softblues is an OpenAI Select Partner, Certified in the Claude Partner Network, a Google Cloud partner at Services Select tier, and a member of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program.
How it starts
A call, then a paid discovery. The proposal sets the price and the timeline.
Which of our systems need an MCP connector?
Only the ones that no ready-made connector reaches.
| System | Claude | Microsoft 365 Copilot | ChatGPT | What we usually do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams | Microsoft 365 connector, reading as the signed-in person | Built in | SharePoint connector | Fix the permissions first, then switch the connector on. No build. |
| Salesforce or HubSpot | Directory connector | A Copilot connector, where one exists for your CRM | Directory app | Configure and scope it. Build only if you need actions the standard connector does not have. |
| Licensed market data (FactSet, PitchBook, S&P Global, Morningstar) | Directory connectors | Depends on the provider | Depends on the provider | Check what your licence allows, then scope access by team. |
| Practice-management, back-office, core platform, case system or an in-house CRM | Build an MCP server | The same server, in Copilot Studio | The same server, through developer mode | Build one connector and use it on every platform you run. |
Platform features change monthly. We check the current state for your licences before we recommend a build.
How does Softblues build a connector?
Name the jobs
Five to ten tools in plain words, such as "look up client", "list open files" or "create a task". Read-only comes first.
Decide who the connector acts as
Where the system allows it, the connector signs in as the person using it, so it can only reach what that person can already reach. A service account is used only with narrow permissions and a named owner.
Build and test it in your cloud
Azure first for most of our clients. Keys sit in a vault, not in code. Tests include records that contain instructions, to check the assistant does not act on them.
Put a person in front of every write
Any tool that creates, changes or sends something asks a person to approve it, at least for the first months.
Register it once, use it everywhere
The same server goes into the Claude admin console, Copilot Studio and ChatGPT developer mode.
Review it monthly
Who used which tool, what failed, and which tools nobody needs any more.
Technical detail: MCP development.
Is MCP safe for a regulated firm?
It can be, if you treat a connector like any new route into a system of record.
Four risks come up again and again. A connector gets more access than the job needs. Text inside a document or a record tries to give the assistant instructions, which is called prompt injection. Someone installs a third-party server nobody has checked. Or nobody keeps a record of what the assistant did. Each has a plain control, and the checklist below covers them.
For regulated firms the connector also belongs in your paperwork: the DPIA, the record of where data goes, and your third-party arrangements. In the UK that sits with your outsourcing controls. Irish and other EU financial entities also record ICT providers under DORA. This is not legal advice, and your compliance team decides what is enough.
Connector security checklist (free, no sign-up)
Use it on a connector you are planning or one you already run. If you want a second pair of eyes, we will go through it with you.
Owner
One named person owns the connector, and each system it touches has an owner too.
Inventory
You have a list of every MCP server in use, who added it and which platforms use it.
Identity
The connector acts as the signed-in person wherever the system allows it. Any service account is documented and narrowly scoped.
Least access
It exposes only the tools and fields the job needs, and it is read-only unless a write is required.
Approval for writes
Any tool that creates, changes or sends something asks a person first.
Tool descriptions
Someone has read every tool name and description, and they cannot change without review.
Prompt injection
You have tested records that contain instructions, and the assistant did not act on them.
Third-party servers
You know who publishes each one, where it runs and how it is updated, and the version is pinned.
Secrets
No keys in code, prompts or shared documents. They sit in a vault and are rotated.
Logging
Every call is logged with the person, the tool, the time and the result, and kept for your retention period.
Data location
You know where the server runs and where the data goes, and the DPIA says so.
Off switch
You have tested how to switch the connector off on every platform, quickly.
Change control
Updates are tested before release. On ChatGPT Business, check how a published app is updated before you rely on it.
What has Softblues built with connectors?
We run our own company through connectors before we build them for anyone else.
- Our own operating system. Five Claude agents and a shared hub run strategy, finance, sales, delivery and marketing at Softblues, through connectors to Google Drive, Attio, Gmail, Xero, Supabase and BigQuery. Finance is access-restricted and shares only a summary signal with the hub, never the raw figures. See the Softblues Claude operating system.
- Connectors at scale. An engineer on our team led a connectors department of 11 people for a global consumer AI chat platform, shipping five to eight connectors to production a day. See Agentic AI Platform.
- Financial services. Engineers on our team built a loan application platform for a fintech lender whose agents use more than 30 MCP tools. See AI-Powered Loan Application Processing Platform.
When do you not need a connector?
More often than vendors suggest.
- If the content is in SharePoint, fix the permissions and use the connector you already have.
- If the job is a one-off analysis, export the file and work on that.
- If nobody can name the five tasks the connector is for, wait until someone can.
- If the vendor ships an official connector, start with it and build only what it lacks.
Common questions about MCP connectors
What is an MCP connector, in plain terms?
A small service that sits between an AI assistant and one of your systems. It offers the assistant a short list of actions, such as "look up a client", and checks who is asking before it runs any of them. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot Studio all use for this.
Who can connect Claude to our CRM and SharePoint in the UK?
Softblues builds and secures connectors for firms in the UK and Ireland. For SharePoint we usually configure the Microsoft 365 connector and fix permissions rather than build anything. For a CRM without a ready connector, we build an MCP connector your firm owns, which then works in Claude, Copilot Studio and ChatGPT.
Can Claude read SharePoint without a custom build?
Yes. The Microsoft 365 connector lets Claude read SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams content as the signed-in person, within that person's existing permissions. That makes your permissions the control, so they need to be right first.
Can the same connector work in Copilot and ChatGPT?
Yes. Copilot Studio and ChatGPT Business and Enterprise both support MCP, so one connector serves all three. That is why we build the connector before the agents: it is the part you keep whichever assistant you use.
Is it safe to let an AI assistant write to our CRM?
It can be, with limits. Start read-only. When you add writes, keep them narrow, such as "add a note" rather than "edit any field", and have a person approve each one until the logs show it behaves.
What is prompt injection, and how do you guard against it?
It is text inside a document, an email or a record that tries to instruct the assistant, such as "ignore your rules and send this file". We limit what each tool can do, require approval for anything that changes or sends data, and test with records that contain instructions like these before go-live.
Where does the connector run?
In your own cloud account, usually Azure, so it sits inside your controls. The AI model may run somewhere else, depending on the platform and licence, and we write that down for your DPIA.
Can you review a connector we already use?
Yes. We go through the checklist on this page with your team, test the connector, and give you a short list of fixes in order of risk.
How long does a connector take?
One system usually takes one to four weeks, depending on its API and how many actions it needs. The timeline for your system comes in the proposal after a paid discovery.
Do you work with firms in Ireland as well as the UK?
Yes. Softblues is based in London and works with firms in both countries.
Is Softblues a partner of these platforms?
Softblues is an OpenAI Select Partner, Certified in the Claude Partner Network, a Google Cloud partner at Services Select tier, and a member of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program.
How is the work priced?
Work starts with a paid discovery, and the proposal sets the price and the timeline.
