What's inside

Six chapters, sixteen slides, forty minutes. Each chapter is two to four slides and stands alone: read what you need, skip what you don't.

1

The platform choice

When Claude is the right answer, when Copilot is, when Gemini is, and how to weigh the soft factors that rarely make it into RFPs.

2

Governance and compliance

SSO, SCIM, retention, audit logs. Mapped against UK GDPR, ICO AI guidance, and FCA conduct rules.

3

Total cost of ownership

Licence costs, API costs, integration costs, internal time, ongoing partnership. Sample budgets at 100, 500, and 1,500 staff.

4

Realistic rollout timing

Where most rollouts slip. The 90-day model. Department sequencing. How to avoid the common stalls.

5

Build versus buy

Custom MCP servers, Vertex AI agents, custom Skills. When custom is worth the cost, when it is not.

6

Questions for any vendor

The 12 questions that surface real expertise versus PowerPoint expertise. Reference checks, work samples, contract terms.

Who this guide is for

Buyers

CTOs, CIOs, and heads of digital transformation choosing between Claude, Copilot, and Gemini, and trying to build an honest comparison their CFO will believe.

Budget owners

CEOs, COOs, and CFOs at companies with 50 to 2,000 plus staff who need real cost ranges, not "contact sales for pricing", before approving an AI programme.

Compliance and risk

General Counsels, CISOs, and compliance officers at FCA-regulated firms, healthcare providers, professional services firms, and any UK or Irish business with serious data governance.

A sample of what's inside

Four cost components, not two

Most buyers see licences and integration costs. They miss API costs and the internal time and partnership costs, where year-one budgets quietly slip. The guide breaks down all four with sample ranges at three engagement shapes.

Plan for 90 days, then years

A 2 to 3 week strategy phase, a 6 to 10 week deployment phase, then a continuous partnership. Each phase has a common failure mode the guide names explicitly.

Twelve questions for any vendor

"Show me a custom MCP server you built." "What happens when Anthropic obsoletes your work?" "What do you not do?" Twelve questions designed to surface real expertise versus PowerPoint expertise, useful for any AI vendor evaluation, not only Softblues.

Where this guide is not a substitute

The Buyer's Guide is a primer. It is not a replacement for the following, and we say so up front:

  • A legal review by your General Counsel. The compliance chapter is a starting point, not a final position. UK GDPR, FCA conduct rules, and EU AI Act all require firm-specific interpretation.
  • A bespoke security assessment. The governance chapter covers what to look for, but your CISO will need their own evaluation against your threat model.
  • A precise quote. Cost ranges are indicative. Real pricing depends on seat count, term, integration complexity, and contract structure.
  • A discovery conversation. The guide is written to be useful whether or not you engage Softblues. If you want a tailored view of where you stand, book a 20-minute call.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Buyer's Guide really free?

Yes. No paywall, no obligation, no follow-up calls unless you ask for one. We ask for your details so we can email you the PDF and notify you when we publish updates. That is the full extent of it.

How is this different from sales collateral?

The guide names where Claude is the wrong answer and refers you to other tools (Copilot, Gemini) when those fit better. It gives real cost ranges instead of "contact sales". It lists the failure modes we have seen in deployments rather than pretending every project ships perfectly. Sales collateral does not do any of that.

Who wrote it?

Ivan Pylypchuk (CEO, Softblues, ten years deploying enterprise software in the UK and Ireland) and Niall Marshall (Sales Partner, fifteen years at Accenture and Google in enterprise transformation). It draws on Softblues field experience deploying Claude Enterprise across UK and Ireland mid-market businesses.

How current is it?

We review the guide every 90 days. The current version is May 2026. Next planned revision: August 2026. If you opted into update notifications, we will email you when it lands.

Can I share it internally with my team?

Please do. The guide is designed to be shared with your CIO, CFO, General Counsel, and procurement team. We do not restrict internal distribution.

Will Softblues follow up after I download?

Only if you tick the box requesting follow-up. Otherwise, you will only hear from us when the next quarterly revision is published (and only if you opted into update notifications). One-click unsubscribe in every email.
